The large group house is located in Varena, a town 3 km from the center of Cavalese. The town lies at the foot of the Corno Nero, and is known for its cross-country skiing center and as a natural paradise for enthusiasts of this discipline. Walking through its streets you can admire the typical monolithic porphyry fountains. The flat and panoramic walks around the town are spectacular. The large nativity scene in Varena "On the Way to Bethlehem" attracts many visitors, with hundreds of characters and animals reproducing, in perfect Arabic style, the scenario of the Nativity.
The Passo Lavazé plateau, 8 km from Varena, is one of the most fascinating environments in the Val di Fiemme from a landscape point of view. The immense expanse of meadows, framed by fir trees, larches and pine trees, is dominated by the Pala di Santa (2,488 m.). From the pass you can enjoy a wide panorama of the Catinaccio and the Latemar, Dolomite peaks which, at every sunset, offer the spectacle of the enrosadira. Every winter, the favorable altitude (1,769-2,150 m) makes the cross-country ski slopes practicable from December to April. In the renowned Passo Lavazé-Oclini centre, cross-country skiing meets snow trekking and alpine skiing. In addition to the 80 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, which also enter the coniferous forests, there are ski lifts, slopes for downhill skiing, snowshoe trails and snow parks for sledding, bobsleighs and inflatable boats.
